Unterhaltsame Romcom
Emily Henrys "Funny Story" ist eine kurzweilige Romcom, die wie gewohnt mit Charme und Witz daherkommt. Die Geschichte bedient sich an beliebten Tropes wie Fake Dating und Small Town Romance, und entführt die Leser in eine malerische Kleinstadt.
Wie in Henrys früheren Werken sind die Charaktere, insbesondere der männliche Protagonisten, liebevoll ausgearbeitet und äußerst sympathisch. Die Dynamik zwischen den Figuren ist stimmig und es macht Spaß, ihre Interaktionen zu verfolgen. Besonders das Setting, dass die Figuren den gesamten Sommer über begleitet werden und man mit diese Jahreszeit sozusagen mit den Protagonisten mitfühlt, hat mir gut gefallen.
Trotz dieser Stärken enttäuscht "Funny Story" in einigen Aspekten. Der Plot verläuft leider allzu vorhersehbar und bietet keine überraschenden Wendungen oder neuen Ideen. Schon früh lässt sich erahnen, wie sich die Geschichte entwickeln wird, und so fehlt es an Spannung und Innovation. Dies führt dazu, dass man sich als Leser oft an bekannte Muster und Situationen erinnert fühlt, die man bereits aus anderen Romanzen kennt.
Emily Henrys humorvoller Schreibstil, der sonst oft Schwung und Frische in ihre Geschichten bringt, kann hier das Ruder nicht herumreißen. Die Dialoge sind zwar witzig und charmant, aber sie reichen nicht aus, um die Vorhersehbarkeit der Handlung zu überdecken. Man wünscht sich beim Lesen mehr Tiefgang und überraschende Momente, die "Funny Story" aus der Masse der Romcoms hervorheben würden.
Insgesamt ist "Funny Story" eine solide Romanze, die Fans von Emily Henry und dem Genre gefallen könnte, jedoch ohne besondere Highlights auskommt. Der Lesegenuss bleibt trotz sympathischer Charaktere und gutem Schreibstil etwas auf der Strecke. Daher vergebe ich drei Sterne.

Optisch hat mich das Buch sofort sehr angesprochen. Emily Henry ist eine momentan sehr bekannte und auch beliebt Autorin und auch ich habe bereits einige Bücher von ihr gelesen. Doch die bisher gelesenen Bücher waren ganz nett aber für mich nichts besonderes und nichts was im Kopf hängen bleibt. "Funny Story" hingegen ist meiner Meinung nach das bisher beste Buch der Autorin. Die Protagonisten sind bereits etwas älter und zeigen daher auch ein reiferes Verhalten. Ich konnte von Beginn an sofort mit ihnen mitfühlen und alle Charaktere sind mir auf ihre eigenen Art und Weise ans Herz gewachsen.
Der Schreibstil war sehr locker und leicht, sodass ich nur so durch die Seiten geflogen bin. Die Kapitellänge, für mich auch immer ein wichtiger Faktor, war sehr angenehm (nicht zu lang aber auch nicht zu kurz) und hat die Lesegeschwindigkeit noch mehr beschleunigt.
Ich kann das Buch an jeden weiterempfehlen, der leichte Geschichten mit etwas Tiefgang gerne hat. Perfekte Sommerlektüre!
