Hannah Ritchie

Dr Hannah Ritchie is Senior Researcher in the Programme for Global Development at the University of Oxford. She is also Deputy Editor and Lead Researcher at the highly influential online publication Our World in Data, which brings together the latest data and research on the world's largest problems and makes it accessible for a general audience. Her research appears regularly in the New York Times, Economist, Financial Times, BBC, WIRED, New Scientist and Vox and in bestselling books including Steven Pinker's Enlightenment Now, Hans Rosling's Factfulness and Bill Gates's How to Prevent a Climate Disaster. In 2022, Ritchie was named Scotland's Youth Climate Champion and New Scientist called her 'The woman who gave COVID-19 data to the world'.

Important book

A lot of information, nonetheless digestible, a pleasant read (I have the audio book). Hannah Ritchie is not only spreading general optimism. Her views are based on extensive data. Her understanding and approach is nuanced. She is including aspects you might not have thought of. She is taking a close look, far into the past if needed. Her conclusions are specific and tangible. The audio book is read by herself. Listening to her (sample sufficient) you will notice her authenticity quickly. I have felt a deep passion for meaningfulness and truth. I also liked her scottish accent - a slight surprise at the beginning, but I got used to it quickly. From my point of view this book should be used at schools worldwide, as source of information and - at least equally important - as teaching material on the subject nuanced thinking. The opposite of social media.
