It is 1987, and Lorenzo Hernandez, a handsome, forty-five-year-old divorced Texan with a daughter in college is with his mother beside the bed of his father, Travis, who is critically ill. Lorenzo prays his father's condition will improve. Travis tells Lorenzo he has sold their family business for almost one-billion dollars and bequeathed most of the sizeable proceeds to fund a charitable foundation that Lorenzo is to name, create and manage. Lorenzo had other plans and lacks the motivation to succeed in such an endeavor. But he loves his father and agrees to do it. Travis also tells him he has purchased a yacht that he wants Lorenzo to sail to a little island he owns in the Gulf of Mexico and sprinkle his ashes there, after which the boat will belong to Lorenzo. There is a balance due on delivery of the yacht that Lorenzo is to pay out of the money his father leaves him.
After Travis passes, Lorenzo makes a monetary error that puts his finances in the red and leaves him broke. The family's financial advisor catches the error and suggests a way to recapture enough of the funds to at least pay the balance due on the yacht. It requires Lorenzo to take a flight where he is drawn into situations that effect the five most important women in his life and completely change him and his life goals.
