Guy Montag führt ein geregeltes Leben als Feuerwehrmann. Seine Aufgabe ist es, Bücher zu verbrennen. Als er Clarisse begegnet und sie ihm ungefragte Denkanstöße mitgibt, drohen die festen Bahnen seines Lebens eine neue Richtung einzuschlagen. Er beginnt zu hinterfragen, weshalb die Bücher verbrannt werden müssen und ob die alte Welt nicht auch seine Vorteile hatte. Durch sein eigenes Denken gerät alles, was er für richtig und wahr hielt, ins Wanken. Später erkennt er, wie gefährlich es sein kann, den kollektiven Glauben der Gesellschaft zu hinterfragen. Der Roman hat einen ganz eigenen, wundervollen Schreibstil und lässt sich zügig lesen. Trotz seinen 70 Jahren ist das Werk noch immer aktuell, wichtig und wunderschön.
