I just finished reading this series and overall it is a thrilling and well thought out story. But it is also really long, which is why it took me several months to read the whole series - I kept putting it off for other books.In this finale every storyline merges together and the characters find themselves in an epic battle - actually more than one - to conquer the kingdom. It took me about 200 pages to connect with the story again - way to many inner monologues - but after that the book became a page turner.While the excitement is more than accounted for, the relationships between the characters lack development. Cal and Mare are both very undecided about their relationship status and annoying everyone around them. But I can't help it - I love them together, even though I know most readers don't. Killorn could have played a bigger role - he was pushed to the sidelines way to much.Maven is a character I got to know better in the third book and my heart felt for him in this epic final battle. I was surprised by Evangeline who is now my favorite person in this series and I would have never expected that.All the characters are highly realistic showing a dark abyss within their minds but most of them have a good heart - some more hidden away than others. The ending was equally realistic, but I don't know if I liked it. Don't get me wrong, real and strong endings are a great thing, but I think I wished for something more marshmallowy...Either way it was a great series with a fantastic storyline and a satisfying end3 likes
