I liked the twist, that the god who was loved from Kissens father, who made deal with her father to take his life and save his daughter, who was driven away from Hseth was the god who helped her kill Hseth and also unraveled the big plan of the talicans/ the will of the talicans -the will of Hseth. He and Aan - another water god- showed her how power hungry the talicans got and how they resurrect Hseth with their sacrifices. Osidien got banned out in the sea, so that he cant meddle anymore, and while Kissen tries to get back she tries to ruin every idol and shrine she sees till Aan shows her what the real mission is. To stop the talicans from invading Lesscia and Meddreden she has to strenghten or keep the king alive. The King who himself tries to be a god, after living with one in his chest after the war. The fire god in his chest is an allie from Hseth and their plan was to take control over the king so that they also get control over the whole nation with just one god. While she tries to get back, her companions Inara, Skedi and Elo think that she died and try to take revenge and also try to fight against the king who betrayed his best friend Elo as well as everything he believed in -> he believed that they couldn be save with gods roaming amongs them. While Inara finds out about her heritage as a godkind and works with her powers as a haven, Telle (part of Kissens chosen family) tries to save the archives and the knowledge about the gods, while also speaking up for the rebellion against the king. Elo also joins the rebellion as the former commander and has the leader of the hOUSE OF lesscia as a backup till his own son kills the man, to gain favor with the king who parades around every town till he goes there. There is a battle for the city, a lot of destruction and death - humans as well as gods. While Elo fights with the king, he and Inara got sucked into a spell to the real location of the king insted of the fire dummy who was in Lesscia. There they are about to kill the king, when the get surprised because of Kissens presence. Kissen was taken there from a wind god and got held captive from the rebells who are lead by Inaras mother, who they also thought to be dead - the whole estate got burned down from the king in the first book. There are at a standstill because everyone there wants him dead, but Kissen knows that if he dies, they will be easy targets for the talicans because of the civil wars that would start to get the throne. Arren is the last of his bloodline, beside him there is no heir to the throne so everyone would want to be the king and destry the nation from within even before the talicans appear. The book ends with the talicans on their doorstep bombing away a city with Hseth on their tow,who now has a heart of breddite- god killing stone. In this book we have 5 POV and I get why, so that we can understand the whole picture, the motivations and also see how the characters are changing but i couldn`t bond with any character because of all the POV changes. I liked that the characters a flawed, nobody is ditzyly perfect, nobody is crying over spilled milk. I like it that the badass Godkiller is like a mercanary, has a gold tooth, a prosthetis, drinks, swears and is bi. I like that the sheltered godking knows sign language like the pirates, that she can see emotions, talk to gods and even use her will to bend them and is fighting to get revenge and be stronger. The ex commander has ptsd, gets betrayed from his best friend, stands strong against him because of his believe system. We have a chosen family from orphans who are brave, loving and intelligent. We have a king, who was never chosen but now gets revered as the chosen one and will go over corpses to protect his status quo.
