In the Young Adult novel "Holes" by the author Louis Sachar published in 2002 boy named Stanley Yelnats is accused of stealing the shoes of a famous baseball player and sent to the so-called Camp Green Lake to be punished. Stanley as well as six other boys have to dig big holes everyday and there is a mysterious Warden that they should never make angry. I could relate to Stanley's character, because he always stays calm even though the situation he is in is pretty rough and also because he cares about his family and later his friend Hector Zenoni a lot. I really enjoyed the development of their friendship that grows under the worst conditions. They help each other and show responsibility for each other. Because of their friendship, the characters are able to stay alive and profit from the adventure that they experience together. So I really liked how Louis Sachar shows the importance of friendship and writes very complex and exciting story around it. I recommend this book to teens but also adults, because it is tempting and exciting and never gets old. I give this book four stars out of five. I don't give 5 stars, just because the story sometimes seems unrealistic and the background, especially of the past storyline, is not always clear.
