Born into privilege and gently bred, Nandita is nevertheless shackled by society's narrow expectations of how a woman should be. Married off at 18 to a man she knows little about, Nandita is thrust into a world of violence, where patriarchy rears its ugly head at every step. Expected to be a dutiful wife and daughter-in-law in the face of sexual and emotional abuse, Nandita tries to salvage her marriage while struggling to maintain some semblance of independence. Until, finally, her composure cracks, and she knows she must take a drastic step to preserve her happiness and her dignity.
