Kay is a little boy whose heart and eye are pierced by a splinter of glass and who turns against his playmate, Gerda. When Kay is carried off by the beautiful but cruel Snow Queen, Gerda sets off in search of him. She has many strange adventures before she finds him, and melts the splinters and his broken heart with her tears and her love.
